Check in advance about the amount of luggage you may take. This could make the difference between added expense and aggravations.
   
Bring a sweater in your carry-on bag for the flight in case it gets cold on the plane.
   
Carry on luggage should be packed with anything valuable in case luggage is lost such as medications, an extra change of clothes, etc.
   
Get to the airport early, at least two hours before your flight time and earlier for international flights. Bring something along to occupy your time while at the airport.
   
For long flights, be sure to get enough sleep the night before. Also, wear non-confining, wrinkle resistant clothes and shoes that are fully broken in.
   
Drinking water rather than alcohol on a long flight helps to prevent dehydration.
